PESHAWAR: A new spell of rain with strong wind and thunderstorm is likely to start in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from Wednesday (April 24).

Pakistan Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued letters to all district administrations to keep themselves on their toes in view of expected showers, the PDMA Director General Mohammad Qaisar Khan said.

The DG PDMA said that district administrations had been directed to take all preemptive measures to handle the situation.

He further said that downpours are likely to cause landslide in upper districts, instructing the admins to ensure the availability of machinery during rains.

The PDMA advised the locals and tourists in sensitive upper areas to keep themselves away from electricity wires, dilapidated and under-construction buildings, sign and bill boards.

The PDMA asked the locals and tourists to follow the weather advisory and adopt the precaution measures, directing district administrations to convey messages to the citizens in local languages.

It further directed the authorities concerned in emergency to remain alert for restoration of link roads and provide alternate routes for traffic in case of blockage of roads.

It said that availability of relief workers should be ensured, and keep the passengers and tourists travelling on provincial and national ateries in sensitive areas informed about emergency situation. Downpours and snowfalls may intermittently continue on April 29.
