ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s army chief, Field Marshall Asim Munir, plans to visit Tehran on Thursday as part of ongoing mediation efforts between Iran and the United States, Iran’s semi-official ISNA news agency reported.
Munir is expected to meet with senior Iranian officials, according to ISNA. The visit comes as Pakistan continues to try to bridge the two sides.
On Wednesday, Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi arrived in Tehran for his second visit to Iran in less than a week, Iranian state broadcaster IRIB reported.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei said Tehran has received a new U.S. proposal and is reviewing it.
“We received the points of view of the American side and we are currently examining them,” Baqaei told state television.
He reiterated Iran’s demands in talks to end the war, including the release of Iranian assets frozen abroad and an end to the U.S. blockade on Iranian ports.
