An inside story has emerged regarding the important meeting between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Maulana Fazlur Rehman, the head of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F).

According to sources within JUI-F, Maulana Fazlur Rehman reiterated the demands made during a press conference held at the residence of opposition alliance member Asad Qaiser.

During the meeting, Maulana Fazlur Rehman expressed that not only the opposition alliance but also human rights organizations and the international community viewed new elections as the solution to the country’s issues.

He further told the Prime Minister that he could not back away from the declaration made with opposition leaders.

The JUI-F leader also voiced concerns regarding unmet promises related to the 27th Constitutional Amendment, stating that significant commitments made with his party had not been fulfilled. He mentioned that laws, including the PICA Act, passed after the constitutional amendment were contrary to the Constitution.

Maulana Fazlur Rehman also complained that the promises made regarding the Religious Schools Act had been broken, and the act, even after being signed, remained pending in the provinces.
