1. Henry Spencer, first Earl of Sunderland (1620-1643)

The progenitor of the Spencer family was born as the third Baron Spencer and then elevated to the peerage of the first Earl of Sunderland, spawning a new title for the eldest Spencer men that lasted until the 1750s.
