KARACHI: Shahid Afridi, a former Pakistan captain and all-rounder believe that Pakistan’s batting resources are sufficient to rescue the upcoming Karachi Test against Australia.

On Day 3, the hosts had a nightmare with the bat, being skittled out for 148 in 53 overs thanks to Mitchell Starc’s reverse swinging master class. When the third day’s play was completed, Australia were 81/1 in their second innings and had a 489-run advantage over Pakistan.

In an interview with a local news programme, Shahid Afridi said, “Pakistan has such batters who can spend time at the crease which is why I’m still positive. The individual performances of the players are good if we look at the past before this innings.”

The former leg-spinner has urged his team to seize this opportunity to score big.

“This is a good opportunity for these players to become a hero and make a name for themselves,” he added.

Despite having a big 408-run advantage, Australia decided not to enforce the follow-on in the first innings, according to the 44-year-old.

“I think they wanted to ensure that the pitch deteriorates further while also giving rest to their bowlers before asking Pakistan to bat again,” he said.

The first Test between the two sides, which took place in Rawalpindi, resulted in a tie.
