Brittney Griner’s wife has gone to the media in an attempt to get the WNBA star back to the United States from Russia.

On Wednesday, Cherelle Griner pleaded with President Joe Biden to do whatever it needed to free Brittney Griner.

“I just keep hearing, ‘He has the power,’ ‘She’s a political pawn,'” Cherelle Griner said during an interview that aired Wednesday on ‘Good Morning America’. “If they’re holding her because they want you (Biden) to do something then I want you to do it.”

Cherelle Griner stated in the interview that she wants to see the government take more action to free Brittney Griner.

She expressed her gratitude for receiving a call from Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, but it was insufficient.

“You say she’s the top priority, but I wanna see it, and I feel like to see it would be me seeing BG on U.S. soil,” she said.

“At this point, I don’t even know who I’m getting back when she comes back.”

Brittney Griner has been imprisoned since February 17 after vaping cartridges containing cannabis-derived oil were allegedly discovered in her luggage while traveling through a Moscow airport.

On cocaine smuggling allegations, Brittney Griner may face a ten-year sentence.

In an interview with ESPN, Cherelle Griner discussed President Biden and the role he could play in Brittney Griner’s release.

“There is one person that can go get her, and that’s our president,” Griner told ESPN’s Angela Rye. “He has that power. You know, I’m just like, ‘Why are we not using it? Like, urgently, use it.’ We’re expecting him to use his power to get it done.”

Cherelle Griner claimed in an ESPN interview that she wanted to see the government act more quickly to secure Brittney Griner’s release, saying that if it were an NBA player held in Russia, there would be more urgency.

“We do live in a world that, the bigger the platform, the bigger the urgency,” she said.

Since Brittney Griner was arrested, Cherelle Griner claims she has only spoken with her wife through letters.

“BG would wholeheartedly love to not go (play) overseas,” Cherelle Griner told Good Morning America. “She has only had one Thanksgiving in the states in the nine years that she has been pro and she misses all that stuff because she can’t make enough money in the WNBA to sustain her life.”
