Marco Rose was fired by Borussia Dortmund after one season as head coach.

Rose guided Dortmund to second place in the Bundesliga after signing from Borussia Monchengladbach, eight points behind winners Bayern Munich.

They were knocked out of the German Cup by second-tier St Pauli after being eliminated from the Champions League and Europa League.

Dortmund stated that “the makeup of the future coaching team will be discussed in the coming days.”

Rose managed 47 games, winning 27 and losing 16 of them.

“This is not an easy day for any of us because our mutual respect was, is, and will continue to be high,” Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke stated.

“After a disappointing season for a variety of reasons, we had to admit that we didn’t make the most of our potential in many areas.”

Dortmund were ousted from the Champions League after placing third in their group behind Ajax and Sporting Lisbon, and Rangers eliminated them from the Europa League.

“I was certain of our route despite a difficult season with many unknowns,” Rose remarked.

“During our chat, I received the impression that all those responsible are no longer completely convinced.”
