For some teams, the road to UEFA Champions League qualification will begin on June 21, when the preliminary qualifying stages in the form of semifinals and a final will be held.

Then, in July and August, three further rounds of two-leg, aggregate-goal qualifiers will be held before the group round proper begins in early September.

Because the FIFA World Cup 2022 will be staged in Qatar towards the end of the year, the Champions League group stage will be shortened to less than two months, ending on November 2.

The 2022-23 Champions League final will be place in Istanbul on June 10th, a day later than normal.

From the 2024-25 season onwards, UEFA confirmed in May 2022 that the UEFA Champions League group stage will expand from 32 to 36 participants.

Along with the increase in clubs, the competition’s format is expected to change dramatically.

Instead of the current six-match group stage, the competition will soon adopt a structure in which clubs must play eight games before moving on to the knockout stage, with all teams being put in a single league table.

The top eight teams in the standings after eight games will advance directly to the next round, while teams in ninth through 24th place will play in two-legged playoffs.

The competition’s overall schedule will be altered as a result of the format modifications, with additional group stage games required.
