Birmingham Bears were penalized five runs when their skipper Carlos Brathwaite took a forceful throw at batter Wayne Madsen during their T20 Blast 2022 encounter against Derbyshire on Sunday.

The event occurred during Derbyshire’s run-13th chase’s over. Brathwaite delivered a long delivery. Madsen attempted a forward defensive stroke. On his follow-through, the Bears captain retrieved the ball and seemed to try to throw the stumps down near the striker’s end.

But he ended up striking Madsen. Who was struck on the left leg. Madsen then expressed his disapproval. Brathwaite apologized for it. Later, the on-field umpires had a lengthy discussion about what happened. They agreed to give the Bears five penalty runs.

Madsen was instrumental in Derbyshire’s chase of 160 in 18.1 overs. His innings includes five fours and three sixes.

Derbyshire captain Shan Masood hit an unbeaten 45 from 45 balls to provide Madsen with the necessary backing. Masood and Madsen put on an 89-run partnership for the second wicket in 9.5 overs. Luis Reece also had 38 runs scored against him.
