Rohit Sharma , India skipper, will miss the forthcoming Dhaka Test as he continues to recover from a thumb injury sustained during the one-day international series in Bangladesh. As of right now, Rohit is in Mumbai getting well.
Rohit fractured his thumb in the second ODI and was taken home to recover for the second Test. Scans taken after the fact indicated a dislocation that required surgical repair.
While Rohit’s injury is improving, sources notes that it is still considered precarious given the number of matches India will play over the next two months. Next week, he will probably get checked out by a doctor.
India hosts Sri Lanka and New Zealand for a total of nine One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and Twenty-Twenty Internationals (T20Is) in January. After the white-ball leg, on February 9, a four-Test series will be played at home against Australia.
The new selection panel may or may not be in place by the time India chooses its squad for the home season. No interviews have taken done as of Monday.
Without Rohit, KL Rahul will lead India with Cheteshwar Pujara as deputy. With Rohit out, Shubman Gill, who scored his first Test century in India’s 188-run triumph in Chattogram, will likely bat first with Rahul. The team’s backup opener is Abhimanyu Easwaran.
Indian team came in Dhaka on Monday after winning in Chattogram on Sunday’s final day. For the second Test at the Shere-Bangla Stadium, they will practice twice: on Tuesday and Wednesday.
