ISLAMABAD: In order to develop talent and elevate it to an international level, the Prime Minister’s Youth Programme (PMYP) officially began the talent search program in football and volleyball on Wednesday.

The trials would be held in five phases in each of the five regions, including the Federal Capital, Azad Jammu & Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, for male and female athletes between the ages of 15 and 25 in both sports.

HEC has been given the task of organizing talent-hunting events to get kids involved in worthwhile sports. The ceremony’s primary guest was Federal Minister for Electricity Division Khurram Dastgir, while Ms. Shaza Fatima Khawaja, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Youth Affairs, Dr. Shaista Sohail, Executive Director HEC, and Prof. Tabassum Afzal, Rector of COMSATS, were also in attendance. Players from the national women’s football and volleyball teams as well as representatives from the Pakistan Football Association and Pakistan Volleyball Federation all attended the inauguration event. 2023 has already been designated as the year of youth by the federal government.

A groundbreaking endeavor to find brilliant young players from 25 sites across the nation is being carried out by the HEC in partnership with a few select universities.

Khurram while addressing the youngsters counseled them by imparting lessons from the poetry of Allama Muhammad Iqbal, asking them to be their own leaders and take command of their own life. In spite of disparaging the performance of state institutions, he continued, it is our duty to play every individual part for the advancement of our nation fully.

He praised the Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Youth Affairs for organizing football and volleyball talent searches in a methodical manner. Shaza Fatima Khawaja told the attendees that the government was dedicated to funding youth-focused activities despite limited funding and resources. She added that PMYP would continue to host a variety of events all year long to engage youth in useful pursuits.

Since young people make up 68% of the population, we place a strong emphasis on their development in all spheres, including sports.

She stated that the government has given the HEC the go-ahead to carry out the groundbreaking project known as the Talent Hunt Sports League. She continued by saying that the HEC has held 100 trials for wrestling, weightlifting, and hockey (for men and women), as well as five provincial leagues for each sport, in addition to two national leagues. Activities to find football and volleyball talent are included in this programme.
