According to an online poll conducted by the International Olympic Committee (IOC), the majority of French citizens support Olympians with Russian or Belarusian passports competing as neutral competitors in Paris in 2024.

The study, which was conducted by the research firm Odoxa, received responses from 1,005 French adults.

“The poll found that 72 percent of the French people are in support of the participation of athletes with a Russian or Belarusian passport, with 44 percent suggesting they should be at the Games under a neutral banner, without the use of flags, anthem, colors or any kind of identification of their country,” IOC wrote on its website on Monday.

Russian and Belarusian athletes have reportedly been competing in a variety of international sports in recent weeks and months as neutral competitors, but no conversations or decisions regarding their participation at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games have yet been made, according to the IOC.

In the meantime, with the second phase of ticket sales beginning on March 15 and the 500-day countdown to Paris 2024’s opening ceremony rapidly approaching, a total of 3.25 million tickets were sold in just the first three weeks of sales.

The Paris 2024 Olympic Games will take place from July 26 to August 11, while the Paralympic Games will run from August 28 to September 8.
