The United States of America defeated Canada 12-1 in their World Baseball Classic pool game on Monday, rebounding from their shocking loss to Mexico with a three-run home run.

The ritzy US group were left reeling on Sunday after a 11-5 drubbing by Mexico that left the reigning champs playing with the chance of first-round disposal.

However, the Americans are now just one win away from reaching the knockout stages following Monday’s resounding victory over Canada at Chase Field in Phoenix, which included a nine-run first inning.

After US starter Lance Lynn, a baseball pitcher, effortlessly and quickly struck out the first three Canadian bats, the game was effectively over.

The US then, at that point, released the overwhelming power of their batting line-up on Canada starter Mitch Bratt, shooting nine hurries to open up a 9-0 lead.

With a monster 405-foot blast to left center field that scored Mookie Betts and Cedric Orioles, US superstar Mike Trout completed the scoring spree in the first inning.

Jared Young’s home run in the second inning gave Canada its first run, but the USA added three more in the third to take a 12-1 lead.

Due to the Classic’s mercy rule, the game was stopped after 6 1/2 innings.

With a win over Colombia on Wednesday in Pool C, the defending champions will advance to the quarterfinals.

In another game on Monday, Puerto Rico’s Jose De Leon and three relievers combined to play the World Baseball Classic’s first perfect game, winning 10-0 against Israel.

Before Yacksel Rios, Edwin Diaz, and Duane Underwood Jr. got the job done for Puerto Rico, De Leon threw 5 2/3 perfect innings.

Puerto Rico won the game with a walk-off RBI single by Enrique Hernandez.

De Leon said, “I’ve dreamt of a moment like this, to be honest with you,”

“With everything that I’ve been through, I needed a moment like this to let the people in Puerto Rico know that I’m still here to stay and I want to show the world that Jose De Leon is still here,” added De Leon.

In other pool play games on Monday, Great Britain also made history by defeating Colombia 7-5 in the country’s first ever classic victory.

British manager Drew Spencer said, “This is the beginning of Chapter 2 for Great Britain baseball and British baseball in general,”

“I think there will be people who can use this moment as inspiration to come out and play the game and to believe that someone with [Great Britain] on the front of their chest can be successful.”
