In a recent social media post, UFC fighter Joaquin Buckley expressed skepticism about Conor McGregor’s return to the octagon, suggesting that the Irish fighter is avoiding a comeback due to the fear of facing defeat.

McGregor’s last appearance in the UFC was at UFC 264 in July 2021, where a gruesome leg break led to a prolonged absence from the sport. Fans have been eagerly awaiting his return, speculating that it might happen in 2024. However, Buckley, known for his candid opinions, believes McGregor is hesitant to step back into the octagon because he knows he would face a tough challenge.

“Man, I’m already knowing the reason @TheNotoriousMMA not coming back. He knows he’d get bodied, and he’ll no longer be the face of combat sports [facepalm],” Buckley posted on social media. “Money Mac, get yo money, man, but stop pretending like you’re coming back, getting these folks’ hopes up [laughing faces].”

Despite Buckley’s skepticism, McGregor seems to be physically ready for a return. Initially slated to face Michael Chandler at UFC 296 in December, the bout was ruled out due to Chandler not completing the six months of mandatory drug testing, according to UFC policy.

McGregor, a former two-division champion, has faced a string of setbacks in recent years, losing three of his last four fights. Notable defeats include back-to-back losses to Dustin Poirier at UFC 257 and UFC 264 and a submission loss to Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 229 in 2018.

At his peak, McGregor was a dominant force in the UFC, winning two titles and scoring impressive knockouts, with the quickest coming against Jose Aldo in just 13 seconds in December 2015. Despite being undefeated in his first seven UFC fights, McGregor’s career took a turn with a loss to Nate Diaz at UFC 196 in March 2016.

As the anticipation for McGregor’s return continues, the MMA world remains divided on whether the Irish icon can reclaim his past glory or if he will face further challenges in a highly competitive UFC landscape.
