In a major setback for Real Madrid, Brazilian forward Vinicius Junior has become the latest casualty in the team’s ever-expanding injury list. The 23-year-old left-winger is set to be sidelined for a staggering 10 weeks after suffering a thigh injury during the recent clash between Brazil and Colombia.

Real Madrid’s medical team confirmed the extent of Vinicius’ injury, stating, “After the tests carried out today on our player Vinicius Jr. by the Real Madrid Medical Services, he has been diagnosed with a rupture in the femoral biceps with involvement of the distal tendon in his left leg.”

Vinicius’ absence will force him to miss a crucial period of action, encompassing at least 14 matches. The club is aiming for his return in time for the Madrid derby in February.

This injury comes hot on the heels of another blow for Real Madrid, as midfielder Eduardo Camavinga sustained an injury during a training session with the France national team. Camavinga is ruled out until the start of January 2024, missing seven matches and remaining uncertain for three others.

Expressing frustration over the increasing injury toll, Real Madrid has pointed fingers at football’s governing bodies, blaming FIFA, UEFA, La Liga, and others for a congested schedule that they argue is taking a toll on players’ well-being. Journalist Javier Birlanga, reporting for GOAL, Marca, and other reputable outlets, conveyed the club’s discontent with the situation.

The injury crisis for Real Madrid doesn’t end there. Thibaut Courtois and Eder Militao, the first-choice goalkeeper and center-back, are already sidelined with torn Anterior Cruciate Ligaments (ACL), and their return is not expected until late April 2024.

Joining the absentee list are Jude Bellingham, Aurilien Tchouameni, Arda Guler, and Kepa Arrizabalaga. Kepa is set to return in two weeks, Bellingham in a similar timeframe, while Tchouameni and Guler are likely to resume training in December. Camavinga aims to make his comeback at the start of January 2024.

Real Madrid finds themselves grappling with a challenging period as key players remain on the treatment table. The club’s fans will anxiously await updates on their stars’ recoveries, hoping for a swift return to full strength as they navigate a demanding season.
