Bangladesh hopes to have fast bowler Taskin Ahmed back from injury in time for the Twenty20 series in the West Indies next month, a selector told France news agency on Wednesday.

Since the second Test against South Africa in April, Taskin has been sidelined with a shoulder injury and has visited a specialist in the United Kingdom for treatment.

He was chosen to the squad for the one-day series beginning in the West Indies on July 10, although selector Habibul Bashar noted that, due to his increasing fitness, he might also be considered for the three-match Twenty20 series beginning a week earlier.

“He looks good and may be ready well before the ODIs,” Bashar told France news agency.

The 27-year-old missed the two home Tests against Sri Lanka last month and will not play in the first of Bangladesh’s two five-day games against the West Indies next week.

“He will be traveling to the West Indies before the T20Is anyway. So, there is a good chance for him to play these matches,” said Bashar.

Before aggravating an earlier injury, Taskin was in fine form as Bangladesh won an ODI series in South Africa for the first time, taking eight wickets in three matches.

The first Test will be contested in Antigua from June 16 to 20, and the second will be placed in Saint Lucia from June 24 to 28.
