New ARM GPU Will Improve Ray Tracing on Mobile Devices. Ray Tracing on Mobile Devices Is Going to Become Much More Accurate.

Modern video games use ray tracing. The rendering technique gives video games beautiful images. ARM’s Immortalis G715 GPU will soon bring the technology to smartphones.

Immortalis G715 is ARM’s first GPU with ray-tracing hardware. The previous generation only had software-level support, while the new G715 has hardware-level support, boosting performance. ARM says it will consume 4% of the shader core area while tripling performance.

This video shows how the upgraded GPU improves gaming graphics. Watch the reflections and shadows.

ARM’s Mali GPUs are also staying. The chip creator announced Mali G615 and G517. Difference is core count. Immortalis has 10 or more cores, G615 has 6 or fewer.

All three GPUs enable Variable Rate Shading (VRS), which improves resource allocation. It will allow the GPU to render the player character at full resolution while utilising fewer resources for other elements (e.g. a building in the background). This can cut electricity and boost frame rates by 40%.

All three have a 15 percent faster execution engine. Machine learning has doubled. They’re ARM’s greatest GPUs.

ARM is partnering with Unity and Epic to create new graphics technologies. Adaptive Performance adjusts frame rates based on previous frames and temperatures.
