WhatsApp, owned by Meta, is introducing a new voice chat feature for smoother communication in large groups, set to be unveiled in the coming weeks.
Initially launched in beta, the feature is now officially rolling out, allowing WhatsApp users to participate in voice chats with up to 32 individuals.
The new voice chat feature has a unique approach—participants won’t be automatically called when it starts. Instead, they receive a push notification, and anyone in the group can join by double-tapping the in-chat bubble.
With the latest update, participants can send text messages while connected to the voice chat. These voice chats, accommodating up to 32 participants, are end-to-end encrypted.
The rollout of this new voice chat feature is expected on both iOS and Android platforms in the coming weeks.
