The UAE Cyber Security Council has issued a high-risk alert concerning users of the desktop version of Google Chrome, citing multiple vulnerabilities that could potentially expose personal information and allow attackers to execute arbitrary code.
They advise users to upgrade to the latest version, which includes 12 security fixes, two of which are classified as high severity. These vulnerabilities impact Chrome versions 122.0.6261.57 or earlier on Windows, Mac, and Linux platforms.
To update Chrome, users are advised to open the browser, access the “More” menu, select “Help,” and then click on “About Google Chrome” to check for updates. If an update is available, users will be prompted to restart the browser.
While the update typically occurs in the background, manual involvement may be necessary if the browser has not been restarted. Upon relaunch, Chrome will restore any formerly closed tabs and windows. Users have the option to postpone the update if preferred.
The alert underscores the importance of keeping software up-to-date to mitigate security risks and safeguard against potential breaks or data leaks. Users are urged to promptly install updates and adhere to good cybersecurity practices to protect their information and systems.
