According to rumors, the rendering capability of the PlayStation 5 Pro, the next iteration in the PS5 lineup following the PS5 Slim, is rumored to be around 45% faster than the base model.
Additionally, its ray-tracing performance is said to be expressively improved, potentially doubling or even increasing effectiveness.
In a recent YouTube upload by Moore’s Law is Dead, a leaked document supposedly provides fresh details about Sony’s upcoming hardware update for its current-gen console.
Among the anticipated upgrades are three key features, highlighted by a larger GPU paired with faster system memory.
This larger GPU is likely to facilitate the above-mentioned improvements, including the 45% boost in rendering performance and up to 3 to 4 times higher ray-tracing performance in some cases.
Additionally, powering the PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution upscaling/antialiasing solution will be a custom machine learning architecture, boasting impressive capabilities such as 300 TOPS of 8-bit computation and 67 TFLOPS of 16-bit floating-point performance.
This machine-learning feature will also be leveraged for super-resolution processing on input data, producing color buffers capable of supporting resolutions up to 4K. Future updates aim to extend this support to resolutions of up to 8K.
Moreover, this machine-learning technique for Temporal Anti-Aliasing will replace TAAU or temporal upsampling commonly found in games today. Similar to NVIDIA DLSS and AMD FSR, this approach will offer comprehensive HDR support.
By using pretrained graph parameters, the technology eliminates the need for per-game training, while requiring an estimated 250MB of memory and completing the task of upscaling 1080p to 2160p resolution in roughly 2 milliseconds.
AMD, the provider of PlayStation 5’s GPUs, recently announced AI-supported upscaling support for games, suggesting that the PlayStation 5 Pro is likely to receive this upgrade as well. Nonetheless, it’s advisable to approach this information with caution.
