Sources: iPhone Home Screen icons could be customised on iOS 18

IPhone users didn’t have the ability to customize their Home Screen app icons, leading to requests for more control over display elements.
But with the release of iOS 18, users will now have extensive control over how their iPhone’s Home Screen icons appear, allowing for customization.

According to reports from MacRumors, Home Screen app icons are organized in a hidden grid for alignment purposes. However, iOS 18 is expected to let users arrange icons and create blank spaces, rows, and columns between them.

Tech reporter Mark Gurman from Bloomberg, known for accurate insights, first discussed the possibility of a more customizable Home Screen for iPhones with iOS 18.

While third-party apps like Shortcuts and Widgetsmith already allow arranging Home Screen icons and creating blank icons, having this capability directly in iOS would be more convenient and not require additional apps.

Customizing app icons has been a standard feature on iPhones since iOS 16. However, iOS 18 is expected to bring a broader range of icon customization options, making it a significant Home Screen improvement.

iOS 18 is scheduled to be unveiled at Apple’s WWDC conference in June. Along with Home Screen changes, the update may include new AI features for Siri and apps, RCS support in Messages for better communication with Android devices, design updates, and more.
