Indians dancing in Times Square appears to be a fad, as several individuals have gained notoriety for bopping to Bollywood tunes in the famous New York City location. A Sikh man’s bhangra performance in the centre of Times Square last week caused him to become viral.
By performing bhangra at the famous location with a transformer and earning the hearts of many desis online, two Indian women are now stepping up the trend. Shivani Bhagwan and Chaya Kumar are two bhangra dancers who teach classes and even post instructional videos on their 385k-follower Instagram profile called “bfunk.” In one of their most recent videos, they can be seen dancing the bhangra with a massive yellow robot in Times Square.
Bumblebee, a Transformers character from the Hailee Steinfeld-starring film of the same name, also danced bhangra as the two Indian women did. The background music featured the Punjabi song “Chori Chori Takna,” which was vigorously performed by the Indian dancers. Funny enough, a Batman costumed man could be seen in the background, looking rather bummed that he wasn’t a part of the fun. In the end, the woman gave Bumblebee a sweet hug, and he returned the favour.
