World’s largest volcano explodes and spews lethal lava
Eruption of 13,679-foot Mauna Loa has already generated scores of earthquakes. Lava...
The European Space Agency (ESA) published a stunning footage of a volcanic lake spewing vivid blue lava on Saturday. The clip was released as a part of an episode dedicated to Halloween. The woman in the video identifies the spot as Kawah Ijen Lake in East Java, Indonesia, calling it the “spookiest place on Earth.” It’s an acidic volcanic crater that shoots blue flames.
Because of its high concentration of sulfuric acid and other minerals, which also give the lake its gorgeous blue-greenish color, geologists refer to it as the “largest acid barrel on Earth.”
ESA wrote while sharing the stunning video, ”One of the most spectacular phenomena at Kawah Ijen is its famous blue flames. These eerie blue flames are ignited by sulfuric gases escaping from the cracks in the volcanic crater, creating a surreal nighttime spectacle.”

At this magnificent volcano in the far east of the island of Java, the gasses burn day and night, but their distinctive blue color is only visible after nightfall. During the day, the traditional miners risk the extremely toxic vapors in order to remove massive chunks of sulfur from the crater’s borders, which is a large turquoise lake.
Every day, hundreds of people make the hazardous and tiresome trek to load their wicker baskets with large slabs of the vivid yellow element that occurs naturally. While some people wear protective masks, others, who are too impoverished to afford such safety measures, just cover their faces with damp cloths while the strong, pungent smoke stings their eyes. Local factories purchase the sulfur and use it to refine sugar, create medications, and make matches.
The video captivated internet users, who then wrote a wide range of comments. A few individuals also discussed their own visits to the site.
Check out the responses below:
One user wrote, ”Been there. Be careful with the sulfur plumes, you can hardly breathe even with the protection mask on.” Another said, ”Given the whole “fire and brimstone” rep that Hell has, this acid pool might just be the true Hell on Earth.” ”Spectacular spooky stuff,” posted a third. ”Very interesting,” added a fourth.
