Israeli TikToker Controversial Video Sparks Outrage
Israelis are making fun of Palestinian mothers, insinuating that they are faking their children’s deaths at the hands of Israeli soldiers, after earlier making fun of besieged Palestinians for not having access to food, clean water, or electricity.
Eve Cohen, an Israeli special effects makeup artist, attempted to suggest on her TikTok video that has gone viral on social media that Palestinian moms are not truly losing their children as a result of the ongoing Israel-Gaza conflict.
In the video, Cohen dons a Palestinian mother’s attire and covers her face with artificial blood and debris created with baby powder and ketchup, a cheap special effects makeup. She dabs ketchup on her forehead and then poses as a murdered Palestinian in one image.
Take a look at the video below:
She can be seen in another picture pretending to be a Palestinian woman who has been hurt and holding a pretend child with a fruit for a head. Cohen cuts the footage like a director, yelling “Cut!” in the background and then letting the applause die down. She then discards the fruit and grinned.
Social media users harshly criticized her video, accusing her of being indifferent to the seriousness of the tensions between Israel and Palestine. Subsequently, Cohen disabled her account and uploaded another TikTok, drawing attention to a video in which Palestinians were seen pretending to be injured with makeup.
She used that video as evidence for her statements that web footage depicting the suffering of Palestinians was “Hamas’s propaganda.” However, reports that a Reuters Fact Check verified that the footage Cohen utilized to support her allegations was from a 2017 medical training exercise.
The film follows another Israeli TikToker who filmed a ‘Get Ready With Me’ video in which he ridiculed Palestinians impacted by the conflict. She removed her TikTok video in response to criticism.
