A magnitude 5.6 earthquake occurred 134 kilometers north of Lae, Papua New Guinea. According to the Potsdam Geological Survey (GFZ) in Germany, a 5.5 magnitude earthquake shook Rae (Morobe province) in Papua New Guinea 15 minutes ago.

According to the Institute, one of the most important international organizations in the world on seismic issues, the earthquake occurred on Tuesday, June 14, 2022 at 19:09 local time, at an average depth of 172 km from the epicenter.

As seismologists manually evaluate the data and revise their calculations, the magnitude of the earthquake, the exact location and depth of the epicenter can still be corrected in the next few hours.

The French National Earthquake Network (RéNaSS) also reported a magnitude of 5.5. Other sources of such earthquakes are the RaspberryShake Citizen seismometer network (magnitude 5.5) and the European Seismic Center of the Mediterranean (EMSC) (magnitude 5.6).

Preliminary seismic data suggest that almost everyone should have felt an earthquake near the epicenter.
