Alabama unemployment rate has dropped to a new low. The rate of 2.7 percent is a new low; down from 2.8 percent in April and below the 3.6 percent rate in May 2021.
Governor Kay Ivey said on Friday that Alabama’s preliminary, seasonally adjusted May unemployment rate is 2.7 percent; a new low, down from 2.8 percent in April and below the 3.6 percent figure in May 2021.

“We’re seeing the resiliency of Alabama’s workforce once again,” Governor Ivey stated.
“Once again, we’re shattering records established only a month ago. We’re about a full percentage point below the national unemployment rate; and we’ve routinely been listed as having the lowest unemployment rate in the Southeast.”

“In fact, Alabama’s average weekly wages have risen by 20 percent since May 2019; setting a new record high.” Alabamans are hard at work; and our business community is reaping the rewards!”

“All of the ingredients necessary for positive economic growth are improving and smashing records on a regular basis;” stated Alabama Department of Labor Secretary Fitzgerald Washington.
“Alabama’s long-term growth is encouraging. More people have entered the labour force this year than at any other point in the year; indicating that people are confident in their ability to find work.
More people are employed than ever before; and fewer individuals are unemployed. I’d say they are all reasons to rejoice!”

Over the year, the Civilian Labor Force (CLF) expanded by 34,697; reaching a new high of 2,284,598 in 2022.
