An Alaska police officer was shot and seriously injured Wednesday night.
The officer was conducting a security check at an Anchorage park.
The suspect sustained non-fatal injuries. Officers’ use of force is being investigated in accordance with protocol.

An Alaska police officer was shot and seriously injured Wednesday night while conducting a security check at an Anchorage park.
The officer was taken to the hospital and is expected to survive, according to Anchorage police.
After an Anchorage police officer and a partner made contact with him around 8 p.m. local time, the suspect allegedly pulled out a handgun and fired on the officer at Centennial Campground, striking the officer. Both officers fired back at the suspect.

The man was shot multiple times and sustained non-fatal injuries. According to the department, charges will be filed soon.
“Pray for our officer and his family as he recovers,” the department said in a statement.
According to police, the officers’ use of force is being investigated in accordance with protocol.
