A fire kills 10 family members of a firefighter, including 3 children

• The children who died were ages 5, 6 and 7, Pennsylvania State Police say.

Seven adults and three children killed when fire burns a home in northern Pennsylvania; early on Friday morning. The volunteer firefighter who arrived to put out the fire was horrified to learn the dead were his own family, according to investigators.

In a news release, Pennsylvania State Police stated that the three children; who died aged 5, 6, and 7, while the seven adults ranged in age from late teens to a 79-year-old male.

The 10 victims, according to Harold Baker, a volunteer firefighter in Nescopeck; comprising of his son, daughter, father-in-law, brother-in-law, sister-in-law, three grandchildren; and two other relatives. He said that his two daughters, along with the other young victims; were swimming and having other summertime fun at their aunt and uncle’s house.

He mentioned that there were 13 dogs living in the two-story house; but he would not disclose whether he knew if any had survived.”I only wanted to enter and see my family—these were the only things I wanted to do. Baker snatched up a hose and an air pack and began dousing the fire with water as he desperately tried to go inside and shout out to his son. Baker was taken back to the firehouse by other firefighters; after his chief recognised whose house it was.

Sam Sanguedolce, the district attorney for Luzerne County, said Friday night; that a preliminary investigation indicates the fire started on the front porch at around 2:30 a.m.

According to the information he had, the fire had begun and spread rapidly, making it challenging to escape.

According to Sanguedolce, three persons managed to escape the fire. Four state police fire marshals are working on the investigation; but it won’t be labelled a criminal one unless they find evidence that the fire; was started on purpose, the official said.

A little community called Nescopeck is located on the Susquehanna River; about 20 miles south of Wilkes-Barre. The home was located on a residential street that mostly had single family homes; that were occupied by the owner.

The initial address provided for the call, according to Baker, was a neighbouring residence. As the firetruck drew near, he realised it was his family’s house. When his squad arrived on the scene, the house was already engulfed in flames, according to him.

“Nothing could have been done to allow us to enter. We attempted but failed to enter, “added Baker, 57, a firefighter of 40 years.

Dale Baker, his son, who is now 19 years old; had enlisted in the fire department at the age of 16 like both of his parents had done.
