According to official media KCNA on Friday, North Korea rejected South Korea’s offer of financial assistance in exchange for denuclearization because it implied President Yoon Suk Yeol was “really simple” in the proposal.

Kim Yo Jong, a senior official and the sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, called Yoon’s proposal to enhance the country’s economy and standard of living “pipedream-like remarks” and rejected it.

During his inaugural speech in May, Yoon initially put up what he dubbed a “audacious strategy” to trade economic cooperation for the cessation of North Korea’s nuclear development. Since then, he has kept bringing up the notion, repeating his offer this week.

In a speech on Monday, he promised to modernise North Korea’s ports, trade routes, hospitals, and economy in exchange for denuclearization. He also claimed his government will execute a large-scale food programme, help with power generation, improve agriculture, and do other related actions.

However, Kim Yo Jong rejected the idea and attacked the president of South Korea personally in the KCNA article.

As quoted by KCNA, Kim Yo Jong remarked, “To think that the plan to barter ‘economic cooperation’ for our honor, nukes, is the great dream, hope and plan of Yoon, we came to realize that he is really simple and still childish,”  “We make it clear that we will not sit face to face with him.”

Kim Yo Jong’s “disrespectful comments” prompted a response from South Korea’s Unification Ministry on Friday, which was met with “strong regret.”
