Ferrovie dello Stato, the Italian government-owned railway operator, announced on Friday that it will offer its employees a 300-euro supplementary bonus this year as part of a government-approved plan to offset the growing cost of living.

According to an agreement with labor unions, Ferrovie will provide its employees with additional credit to cover expenses such as utility bills, public transportation, and gasoline. Ferrovie employs over 82,000 individuals in Italy.

As part of a 9 billion euro relief package to help enterprises and individuals with decades-high inflation rates and higher energy prices, the government passed legislation earlier this month exempting from taxation so-called fringe benefits provided to employees in the amount of up to €3,000 per worker.
