According to Ukrainian officials, Russia attacked ukraine overnight using 16 drones produced in Iran, seven of which were pointed directly towards Kyiv, the country’s capital.

According to the military of Kiev, all of the drones were destroyed.

A barrage of Russian missiles was launched against cities all around the nation a day earlier, on Thursday.

According to Russia, it has been attacking military and energy targets to hinder Ukraine’s ability to transfer its army reserves and maintain its equipment.

After 2:00 a.m. local time on Friday, an air warning was declared in the capital, and locals were warned to seek safety.

According to Vitali Klitschko, mayor of the city, two drones were shot down “on approach” and five drones were shot down in the air.

No one was reportedly hurt in Kiev, but Mr. Klitschko noted that windows in two buildings had been harmed.

According to the presidential office, one of the drones also ignited a fire in a four-story administrative building.

According to President Volodymyr Zelensky, the military of Ukraine reported that more than 180 different types of strikes had been made against the nation over the previous 24 hours, especially against energy infrastructure.

The air force said that the attack came from “different directions with air and sea-based cruise missiles,” adding that many “kamikaze” drones had also been employed.

According to Ukrainian Interior Minister Denys Monastyrskyi, at least three persons have died and six have been injured.

According to official media, Moscow’s defence ministry called it a “massive strike” against military targets using “long-range, high-precision weapons,” and it was successful.

The majority were turned away, although power outages occurred in Kyiv, Odesa, Kherson, Lviv, and other areas, according to Mr. Zelensky.

He emphasised that without Ukraine’s air defence systems, the situation would have been considerably worse.

Since about mid-September, Russia is thought to have been employing drones built in Iran, the Shahed-136, in the fighting in Ukraine. This was refuted by Iran.

Each drone is equipped with explosives in a warhead on its nose and is made to hover over a target until given the order to attack.

In recent weeks, Ukraine has been subjected to dozens of Russian assaults, which frequently result in power disruptions throughout the nation.

Mykhailo Podolyak, the presidential adviser for Ukraine, dubbed Thursday’s attacks “evil” and charged that Moscow intended to “destroy essential infrastructure and kill civilians en masse.”

Moscow has vehemently denied that its missile attacks intentionally target people. Vladimir Putin, however, has acknowledged that Russian forces have been attacking Ukraine’s vital energy facilities.

The Ukrainian government has lobbied with Western politicians to provide it more air defences, and lately US President Joe Biden agreed to give them a Patriot system.

The incident on Thursday occurred barely hours after the Kremlin rejected Ukraine’s proposal for the start of peace negotiations in 2023.
