Four boys dies as drowned in the lake in Solihull: Inquiry
Four boys died after falling into an icy lake at a park...
A gunman shot and killed five people at an apartment building in Toronto, Canada.
At 12:20 a.m. GMT on Sunday, police arrived at the building in Vaughan, about 30 kilometres (19 miles) north of Toronto, where they shot and killed the suspect.
Another person who was hurt badly has been taken to the hospital.
Authorities are looking into the reason, including whether or not the shooter knew any of the victims.
York’s police chief, Jim MacSween, said that when officers arrived, they found a “horrific scene” with many dead bodies in different flats.
“We’re in the process of letting those families know right now, so I can’t tell you anything about the victims or the situation,” he said.
In a press release, Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit, which looks into deaths involving police in the area, said that the person who died was a 73-year-old man.
Mr. MacSween said that there was no longer a threat to the public, and the York police said that those who had to leave their homes could go back.
Stephen Del Duca, the mayor of Vaughan, sent condolences to the families of the people who died in a tweet.
“I want to recognise the brave first responders who are working to safeguard the situation,” he added.
Ontario’s premier, Doug Ford, also offered his condolences, writing on Twitter that he was “shocked and saddened” to hear about the shooting.
“All of Ontario is thinking of the victims of this senseless violence and the family and friends grieving their loss,” Mr Ford said.
