Two men have been arrested on suspicion of killing Cody Fisher, a football player who was stabbed to death on Christmas Day in a Birmingham nightclub.

Police said they are “really pleased” with how the public has responded to their investigation into the death of a 23-year-old man who was stabbed at Crane in Digbeth while out with friends.

After the horrifying event, West Midlands Police started a murder investigation. On Tuesday night, they named the young man who died as Cody, a football player from Birmingham.

The following is what the family said: “Our hearts are broken, and I’ve lost my best friend. My family and I would like to be left alone during this heartbreaking time.”

Police and ambulance crews responded to calls for help, but Cody was pronounced dead just after midnight.

Cody’s girlfriend, who was very upset about his death, paid him tribute by calling him “my whole world, the love of my life, and my best friend.”

Jess said on the Internet, “My poor baby. I’m so sorry this happened to you.

“My whole world, the love of my life, my best friend has been taken away from me. “I don’t know how I’m going to do life without you Code. There is so much we will never get the chance to do now.

“This doesn’t feel real. I love you forever Cody Fisher.” She added in a separate Instagram story with a picture of them out for drinks: “My baby’s smile. How can you take him away? It was meant to be us forever.”

“Something no one should ever have to see,” he said. “My heart aches for Cody and his family, he should be here today, but basic safety protocols are never carried out in these clubs. “Worthless individuals who carry weapons can get in just as easy as someone like me, who wouldn’t even ever consider taking a weapon anywhere.”

Chairman of Stratford Town FC Jed McCrory told Sky News last night with tears in his eyes, “The players are heartbroken. He was almost there. And we’re a club for families.

“They all know each other. It’s going to be a hard one to take for everybody. Everyone at this club. He was so well-liked.

“I’m just speechless. Anything we can do to help we will do. I’m just so sorry for [his family].”

A spokesman for the team said: “Everyone at Stratford Town Football is saddened to hear of the tragic loss of one of our own players Cody Fisher.

“Our sincere condolences go to the family and friends of Cody. Our thoughts are with you at this very difficult time.”

Bromsgrove Sporting, a non-league football team, paid tribute to one of their former players by tweeting, “All of us at Bromsgrove Sporting Football Club are deeply saddened to hear of Cody Fisher’s passing.

“Many people at the club knew Cody as a friend, and we’re very sorry for his family and loved ones.”
