An extremely limited edition of the first Harry Potter book that was never made available to the general public sold at auction for £8,000.

A competition was held to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the publication of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone.

This particular edition was one of only 15 that were printed and was personally autographed by author J.K. Rowling.

Chloe Esslemont, who was 16 years old at the time and hailed from Cumbria, was the winner of the competition.

It had been classified as “very scarce” by auctioneers, and there was no record of comparable copies ever having been sold.

In 2012, the publisher Bloomsbury organized a competition for fans of the series and invited them to submit a colorful letter detailing the reasons why they like the book series.

Only entries received through specially built post boxes located in participating bookstores and libraries were eligible for consideration.

The grand prize winner received one of the books bound in leather as well as a trip for two to The Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Studios in Florida.

Ms. Esslemont, who was 16 years old at the time, was one of the runners-up and was awarded a book as well.

She stated that she had “kept the book bundled up in the attic for years,” but that she had ultimately decided to sell it since “the money would be necessary now.”

The book was sold together with her initial competition contribution, which was in the shape of a folding document and was inspired by the series’ mystical Marauder’s Map.

The dedication to her was included in the book, and the document was sold separately.

The auction house Hansons Auctioneers in Staffordshire said that there was “plenty of interest” in the item.

Jim Spencer, a book expert at the company, made his remarks earlier this month and provided a price range of between £5,000 and £10,000.
