In a survey of 70,000 patients who had been stuck in cars earlier this year, it was discovered that women were more likely to be stranded than men.

The effects of an automobile accident are sometimes much more deadly for women than for men.

Because only “male” test dummies are required by authorities, automobile manufacturers rarely use test dummies modelled after the average female body in safety tests.

The Swedish National Road and Transport Research Institute’s research director for traffic safety, Astrid Linder, is devoted to resolving this.

In order to assess the safety of women in low-severity rear-impact incidents, Linder has developed a “female” crash dummy in collaboration with a team of engineers.

In a recent interview with Media, Linder discussed her research and the way that existing legal restrictions limit female equality in the field of auto safety.
