In a missile attack on the seized Donetsk region, the Ukrainian military claims to have killed some 400 Russian soldiers.

The building in Makiivka, where it was believed that Russian forces were stationed, was the target of the rocket.

The number has not been confirmed. Authorities that supported Russia acknowledged casualties but did not corroborate the alleged numbers.

On Sunday night, air raid sirens were heard in Kyiv as Russia’s most recent wave of drone and missile strikes persisted.

According to Daniil Bezsonov, a top Russian-backed official in the occupied portions of Donetsk, the missile hit Makiivka on New Year’s Day two minutes after midnight.

He claimed, referring to missiles supplied by the US, “A huge blow was inflicted on the vocational school from American MLRS Himars.”

Bezsonov noted in a post on the messaging service Telegram that “there were dead and wounded, the precise number is still unknown.”

Numerous bloggers and commentators in Russia confirmed the attack but said the numbers were smaller.

Russian presenter Vladimir Solovyov remarked on Telegram that the losses were “serious… but not even close” to 400.

Along with the estimated 400 fatalities, 300 people were also injured, according to the Ukrainian military.

According to the newly-installed Russian authority, at least 25 rockets were fired at the area over the course of New Year’s Eve.

After Makiivka’s strike, Kyiv came under fire. According to Oleksiy Kuleba, the regional governor of the Ukrainian capital, a drone and missile attack targeted vital infrastructure.

The wreckage from a downed Russian drone hurt one guy in Kyiv, the mayor of the city said.

It happened after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed his desire for Ukraine to win and experience a “return to normal” in 2023.

President Vladimir Putin declared on Russian television that Russia would fight to defend its independence and sovereignty.

Just after 1:00 am (23:00 GMT) on Monday, the military in Kiev issued a warning about the most recent strikes.

It stated on Telegram, “Air attack on Kyiv… air alert is activated in the capital.”

People were advised to stay in shelters by Serhiy Popko, the commander of the city’s military administration.

The regional governor, Mr. Kuleba, claimed that the weapons were Shahed drones built in Iran and that they were “targeting important infrastructure facilities.”

He advised them to maintain their composure and remain in shelters until the alert was turned off.

Since several months ago, Russia has been attacking Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, destroying power plants and leaving millions in the dark during the bitterly cold winter.
