West aims to break up Russia, says Vladimir Putin
Vladimir Putin, the president of Russia, has said that the West is trying to annihilate his country.
In an interview with media, according to the Russian state news agency, Putin stated that the West’s “one purpose is to break apart the former Soviet Union and its core component, the Russian Federation.”
“And then, perhaps, they will accept us in the so-called family of civilized peoples, but only separately, each part separately. For what?” Putin said.
In remarks to another channel, Putin stated that Moscow must take into account the nuclear capabilities of NATO.
“In today’s conditions, when all the leading NATO countries have declared their main goal as inflicting a strategic defeat on us, so that our people suffer as they say, how can we ignore their nuclear capabilities in these conditions?” Putin told state news agency, according to media.
Putin has emphasized the significance of updating Russia’s nuclear arsenal often.
The Russian president’s comments expand on his week-earlier state of the union address.
“The US and NATO openly state that their goal is the strategic defeat of Russia,” he said. “And what, after that are we just supposed to let them to travel around our (nuclear) facilities?”
Although he primarily recycled his justifications for invading Ukraine and returned to familiar themes in his speech, he did make one significant announcement: Russia is suspending its participation in the New START nuclear weapons reduction deal.
