Muhammad Ameer Bhatti

Early Life and career

Muhammad Ameer Bhatti was born on March 8, 1962 in Burewala city of Vehari district. He gained his early education from Multan and later earned a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Punjab, Lahore.  He chose to pursue a legal education and received his LL.B. from Bahauddin Zakariya University, Multan in 1985.

He began his legal career at Multan and was registered as a lower court advocate in 1986 and a high court advocate in 1988. He was enrolled as Advocate Supreme Court of Pakistan in 2001 after a remarkable journey of practicing in the High Court.

Legal career

Mr Justice Muhammad Ameer Bhatti zealously sought the legal profession and won over the bar members out of pure respect for the profession’s ideals.

He was elected General Secretary of the High Court Bar Association Multan from 1999-2000. In addition to his professional activities, he became a member of the International Bar Association of London from 1991 to 1994 and American Bar Association (ABA) from 2000 to 2002.

Mr Ameer Bhatti has taught at Multan Law College from 1989 to 1991. He participated in the International Law conference in Hong Kong in 1991.

He has served as a legal advisor to various public departments and NGOs including WAPDA, House Building Finance Corporation (HBFC), and Multan Development Authority (MDA).

He has remained Administrative Judge of Labour Court, LDA Tribunal, Punjab Revenue Appellate Tribunal, Museum Lahore High Court, and Banking Court (Recovery of Loans).

Presently he is an administrative/monitoring judge of the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) and Accountability Court. He represents the judiciary on the Syndicate of Islamia University, Bahawalpur, and the University of Punjab.

He successfully conducted innumerable cases pertaining to civil, criminal, constitutional, tax, election, settlement, and service laws. As a judge of the High Court, he has authored a number of landmark judgments.

Lahore High Court

Mr. Justice Muhammad Ameer Bhatti was elevated to Lahore High Court as an additional judge on 12 May 2011 after an impressive career spanning over almost 25 years.

On 7 July 2021, Justice Muhammad Ameer Bhatti took oath as the 51st Chief Justice of the Lahore High Court.

He was appointed LHC Chief Justice by President Dr Arif Alvi after the retirement of after Justice Muhammad Qasim Khan. He also served as a Senior Puisne Judge of the Lahore High Court from March 19, 2020, to July 5, 2021.

Justice Bhatti will remain the LHC chief justice till his superannuation on 4 March 2024.

He served as the Inspection Judge of Khanewal, Chakwal, Sargodha, Sialkot, Sahiwal, Rawalpindi and Faisalabad Districts. He is currently the Inspection Judge of District Lahore.

Justice Ameer Bhatti is a Member of Administrative Committee ATC Court, Departmental Examination Committee, Audit committee, District judiciary building committee, Library committee, and Expunction of adverse remarks committee.

As judge of the Lahore High Court, he has remained Member of Administration Committee. He also remained Member of Performa Promotion Recommendation Committee for district judiciary, and Member of Departmental Confirmation committee.

Ameer Bhatti was part of the Enrollment Committee for Advocates and other officials of the Lahore High Court, District Judiciary, and employees of other departments. He is also Member of Perks & Privileges/Pension Committee for confirmed Judges.

He is a Member of Committee for supervision and Maintenance of Museum. He also served as Member of Committee for Grant of Fitness certificate for Enrolment as Advocate of the Supreme Court.
