Hyundai is stepping into the future of city travel with its new electric flying vehicle called the S-A2, created by its air mobility branch, Supernal.
Revealed at CES, this advanced vehicle is meant for short trips within cities, covering distances of 25 to 40 miles. The key aspects are being eco-friendly, comfortable, and loaded with innovative technology.
The S-A2 works with eight tilting rotors and an electric propulsion system spread out for effective and dependable flying. They've designed it to be super quiet, aiming for noise levels of 65 dB, similar to a dishwasher, during takeoff and landing. When cruising, it's even quieter at 45 dB, making it fit well into city settings without causing disruptions.

Hyundai is really into sustainable practices, and this includes looking into various types of batteries for their flying taxi. Alongside regular choices, they're exploring lithium-metal and solid-state batteries, showing a strong commitment to eco-friendly solutions and pushing technology forward.
Hyundai is making a smart move by using its big production network to manufacture the flying taxis. The goal is to keep the quality high and, at the same time, bring down the production costs. This fits into their larger plan of making modern air travel easy and cost-effective for people in cities.
Looking ahead, Hyundai's air mobility branch, is aiming to get certified in the US by mid-2024, planning flight tests later the same year.
The official launch of the S-A2 is expected in 2028, marking a big step in Hyundai's vision for the future of city air travel.
