Sylvester Stallone has rediscovered his mojo, and the numbers don’t lie! Tulsa King, the action star’s most recent project, has only been on television for three episodes, but because of the show’s phenomenal popularity, Paramount+ has just ordered a second season of the mafia comedy-drama.

In spite of serving 25 years in prison, Stallone plays Dwight “The General” Manfredi, a recent ex-offender who has no intention of changing his ways.

Nothing will stand in his way after his release from prison; not even his his family’s decision to send him to Oklahoma.

He returns immediately to the life that landed him in jail. The General establishes a fresh mob empire at his new headquarters by assembling a new group of criminals.

The show has received praise for providing a fresh perspective on the mobster genre, and Stallone has gotten particular attention for playing the lead role—which also happens to be the Rocky star’s first leading TV role—perfectly.

The first two episodes of Tulsa King received a special linear television showing on Paramount Network on November 27 and 30, respectively, just after Yellowstone aired.

Tulsa King made its Paramount+ debut on November 13 before that. The choice to position the programme directly after Yellowstone paid off, as it benefited from the large audience for the western series to draw in 3.7 million people and take the title of highest-rated series launch across all linear networks. As a result, Paramount+ also saw its highest-ever single-day sign-up rate.

According to Chris McCarthy, President/CEO of Paramount Media Networks & MTV Entertainment Studios, “Tulsa King scored as the #1 new series of the year, topping all others including the Game of Thrones sequel House of the Dragon, with its preview on Paramount Network, and on Paramount+, it shattered records, driving us to our biggest new sign-up day in history – which is why we instantly greenlit Season 2.” McCarthy continued by saying;

“Tulsa King together with Mayor of Kingstown, 1883 and the upcoming 1923, undeniably confirm the success of our strategy to franchise Yellowstone and use it to supercharge streaming growth — none of which would be possible without the creative mastermind of Taylor Sheridan.”

Tanya Giles, Chief Programming Officer at Paramount Streaming, noted the performance of the show’s star in a statement about the series’ performance and said, “With the pairing of the legendary Sylvester Stallone and Taylor Sheridan’s darkly comedic twist on the beloved mobster genre, we have found our latest hit in Tulsa King.

Andrea Savage, Martin Starr, Jay Will, Max Casella, Domenick Lombardozzi, Vincent Piazza, A.C. Peterson, Garrett Hedlund, and Dana Delany are among the other actors who appear in Tulsa King in addition to Stallone.

Together with Emmy winner Terence Winter, TV legend Taylor Sheridan acts as executive producer and as well as the show’s creator (The Sopranos).
