Ke Huy Quan won best supporting actor at the 28th annual Critics Choice Awards on Sunday for his work in the film Everything Everywhere All at Once, continuing his reign over the awards season.

In response to receiving his honour, he replied, “Thank you, thank you, thank you.” As his co-star Michelle Yeoh started crying in the audience, he continued, “I am going to try really hard not to cry tonight.” “Everyone has been so wonderful to me since our movie came out that it is difficult not to cry. I am very anxious.

“Now that I think about it, my comeback narrative may have taken a completely different turn if the critics had not existed. You have not only made it easier for viewers to find our small film, but you have also made it easier for them to recall who I am.

The other nominees were Brendan Gleeson (The Banshees of Inisherin), Barry Keoghan (The Fabelmans), Judd Hirsch (The Fabelmans), Paul Dano (The Fabelmans), and Brian Tyree Henry (Causeway).

After years of success behind the camera as an assistant director and stunt coordinator, Quan, 51, who first entered Hollywood as a child actor in films like 1984’s Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom and 1985’s The Goonies, told in April 2022 that watching 2018’s Crazy Rich Asians made him want to act again.

He laughed and continued, “I was delighted working behind the camera but I had terrible FOMO. I desired a position among my fellow Asian actors.

“I read the screenplay and assumed it was written for me as they represent me. I could relate to each and every one of them “He spoke to PEOPLE about his Everywhere character, Waymond Wang, a devoted husband who travels to other universes in an effort to assist his wife (Michelle Yeoh), who is fighting to rescue the Earth.

His victory on Sunday followed his triumph in the same category at the Golden Globes on Tuesday.
