The two have agreed to participate in the film adaptation of the story of the British boxer “Prince” Naseem Hamed and his rise to world title success under the direction of his Irish-born coach Brendan Ingle.
Produced by Mark Lane of Tea Shop Productions and Kevin Sampson of White Star Productions, the film will be written and directed by Rowan Athale.
Massoud, who previously played Aladdin in a live-action adaptation, will play Hamed, and Considine will play Ingle.
The true account of Hamed’s poor beginnings in Sheffield and his discovery by boxing trainer Ingle, a former steel industry worker, is told in the movie “Giant.”
In spite of Islamophobia in Britain, the pair’s odd alliance, together with Hamed’s unconventional fighting technique and brash demeanour, catapulted them to the top of boxing.
The movie will be entirely financed and produced by AGC Studios, with Sylvester Stallone and Braden Aftergood of Balboa Productions serving as executive producers.
Athale claims that for many years, he has been committed to bringing the couple’s tale to the big screen.
He said: “The story of fabled boxing trainer Brendan Ingle and his tempestuous relationship with protégé ‘Prince’ Naseem Hamed is both legendary, and truly cinematic.
“It’s exciting, necessary, hilarious, and heartbreaking, and to be making this movie with the incomparable Paddy Considine and Mena Massoud, and with the support of the one and only Sylvester Stallone and his Balboa Productions team, is a dream come true.”
