NEW YORK (AP) — The film industry is hoping to move over “the slap” of last year’s celebration as Hollywood prepares for the 95th Academy Awards, where “Everything Everywhere All at Once” is the lead nomination. Here is all the information you require on the 2023 Oscars, including its date, where you can watch the live broadcast, and this year’s controversy.

WHEN ARE THE OSCARS?

On Sunday, March 12, at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, the Oscars will be presented. The event is scheduled to start at 8 p.m. EDT and will be live-streamed on ABC.

WHO’S HOSTING?

For the third time and his first time since 2018, Jimmy Kimmel will serve as host. It was also the final time a single host presided over the Oscars. Several years after Kimmel’s final appearance, the show was without a host. Wanda Sykes, Regina Hall, and Amy Schumer shared hosting duties the previous year. Kimmel made his modest case for being the appropriate person for the position in an advertisement for this year’s show that was inspired by “Top Gun: Maverick,” stating that he can’t get slapped because “I cry a lot”.

WHAT’S NOMINATED FOR BEST PICTURE AT THE 2023 OSCARS?

All Quiet on the Western Front, Avatar: The Way of Water, The Banshees of Inisherin, Elvis, Everything Everywhere All at Once, The Fabelmans, Tár, Top Gun: Maverick, “Triangle of Sorrow,” and Women Talking are the 10 films up for best picture. Below is information on how to watch them.

WHAT’S BEEN CONTROVERSIAL THIS YEAR?

The biggest controversy of the year, aside from the customary snubs and surprises, has been the discussion around Andrea Riseborough’s unexpected nomination for best actress. Although numerous A-list celebrities backed her performance in the underrated drama “To Leslie,” which is set in Texas, Riseborough received a nomination.

Some people perceived the omission of Viola Davis (“Woman King”) and Danielle Deadwyler (“Till”) as evidence of racial prejudice in the film business. After looking into Riseborough’s celebrity-studded grassroots movement, the academy decided not to withdraw her nomination.
