Karan Johar signs a two-film deal with director Sandeep Modi

Karan Johar has hired critically acclaimed directors Vasan Bala and Neeraj Ghaywan to helm a feature film under his banner, Dharma Production. Neeraj is working on an intense human drama for the banner while Vasan will be directing an action movie.

Both movies are now in pre-production and are expected to start shooting this year. And now, we can exclusively reveal that Sandeep Modi, the creator of the newly launched online series The Night Manager, has inked a two film contract with Karan.

“Sandeep has been working on a script for the last two years and the things are now locked on paper with regards to the story. His next directorial is a big budget action film for Dharma Production.

While the script is more or less locked now, the film will enter the pre-production stage by summer this year, as the team is looking to mount a big action film,” according to a source familiar with the project. The source also stated that the movie will begin production by the end of this year.

“It will be a big star-cast film and will proceed into the casting stage by this summer. The details about his second film with Dharma are not known yet, but he has already got an idea green lit by Karan Johar,”  Dharma is currently diversifying its sources of material by working with filmmakers from various schools. In addition to The Night Manager, Sandeep is the director of the adored Sushmita Sen and Ram Madhvani film Arya and the Marathi film Chumbak with Swanand Kirkire.

They are in discussions with numerous more Hindi film industry directors, and a list of forthcoming movies will be released soon. Their currently shooting projects include Mr. and Mrs. Mahi, starring Janhvi Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao, the C Sankaran biography, starring Akshay Kumar, and Raula, starring Vicky Kaushal and Tripti Dimri.

The banner is now preparing for the release of Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani, directed by Karan Johar and starring Ranveer Singh, Alia Bhatt, Jaya Bachchan, and Shabana Azmi.
