“Hellboy: The Crooked Man” horror movie rated in R-category
Taylor indicated that filming for The Crooked Man will begin in April....
According to the media, Jefferson White and Adeline Rudolph have joined the cast of Hellboy: The Crooked Man, which previously had Deadpool 2 actor Jack Kesy as its lead.
Rudolph is slated to play Bobbie Jo Song, rounding out the trio of main characters that include White as Tom Ferrell. The film will be directed by Brian Taylor from a screenplay written by Mike Mignola and Chris Golden, the creators of the Hellboy comic book.
The film, which is set in the 1950s, will follow Hellboy as he becomes stuck in a remote area of Appalachia with a new BPRD agent. They will find a little town there that is inhabited by witches and is ruled by the Crooked Man, a local devil with ties to Hellboy’s history.
The film defies expectations as it returns to its folk horror roots and closely adheres to its source material, as Brian recently revealed that the flick is going to be rated R.
The director identified a few of Mignola’s comics that “had a very different feeling. More lean and mean creepy folk horror. A younger Hellboy, wandering the dark corners of the world… Paranormal investigator, night stalker… The Crooked Man in particular is just such an iconic book.” The director revealed it’s his favorite version of the character. “So the appeal of this one to me is to go back to that and do a real reset, and really give us that version of Hellboy, which I just don’t think we’ve seen yet.”
Producing Hellboy: The Crooked Man are Mike Richardson of Dark Horse Entertainment and Yunger, Jeffrey Greenstein, Les Weldon, Rob Van Norden, and Yariv Lerner of Millennium Media. While executive producing, Mignola will work with Michael Muellner and Julia Muentefering of Telepool, Avi Lerner of Millennium Media, Trevor Short, Boaz Davidson, Tanner Mobley of Campbell Grobman Films, and Christa Campbell of Campbell Grobman Films.
