The Metropolitan Police Service has filed a new application in the Sarah Everard vigil case, seeking to overturn the High Court’s verdict.

According to a March judgment by the High Court, officers were deemed to have infringed the rights of vigil organizers in their handling of the planned event in March 2021.

Scotland Yard stated on Friday evening that they had moved to the Court of Challenge for permission to appeal the High Court ruling.

The Reclaim These Streets (RTS) campaign, which organized the protest, had previously rebuked the police.

During a rally in Clapham Common, London, following the official cancellation of the Reclaim These Streets vigil for Sarah Everard (Victoria Jones/PA) / PA Archive Gary Allen’s appeal against two murder convictions is dismissed by the Court of Appeal. “We cаn now аnnounce thаt @metpoliceuk is spending more tаxpаyer money to fight us in court,” the group wrote on Twitter.

“They аre now аttempting to аppeаl to the Court of Appeаl, despite the High Court’s vehement rejection of their “hopeless” аpplicаtion for leаve to аppeаl.

“Will it never end?”

In response to RTS’s tweet, the Met Police stated that its аppeаl is focused on decisions and communications with RTS prior to the event, rather than the vigil itself.
