Tel Aviv: The Israeli Ministry of Defense has officially confirmed that more than 1,000 Israeli soldiers have been killed in the ongoing war in Gaza, marking one of the deadliest military campaigns in the country's history.
According to the figures released nearly two years after the conflict began, a total of 1,152 Israeli military and security personnel have lost their lives since the outbreak of war on October 7, 2023.
The casualty report includes members of the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF), police forces, the Shin Bet internal security service, and other affiliated units. Notably, the Ministry revealed that approximately 42% of those killed were under the age of 21, highlighting the devastating toll on young service members.
The Defense Ministry stated that the fallen soldiers came from over 6,500 Israeli families, and the conflict has left 351 women widowed and 885 children orphaned.
The report has sparked renewed debate within Israeli society about the human cost of the prolonged conflict and the government’s handling of the war effort. Public pressure is mounting for a reassessment of the military strategy in Gaza as the death toll continues to climb on both sides.
The war, which began following a large-scale attack by Hamas on southern Israel in October 2023, has led to intense fighting and widespread destruction in Gaza, prompting international concern and calls for a ceasefire.
The Israeli government has yet to comment on whether these figures will influence upcoming decisions regarding troop deployments or potential peace negotiations.
