HOUSTON: A Pakistani woman was allegedly targeted in a suspected incident of religious hate in Houston, Texas, where she was violently assaulted without provocation.
The incident occurred in front of Sugar Park Plaza on South Wilcrest Drive in southwest Houston. According to reports, the woman was carrying groceries when a man approached from behind and forcefully pushed her onto the concrete pavement.
The victim fell face-first, suffering a fractured nasal bone and severe injuries to other parts of her face. Authorities are investigating the attack as a possible hate crime.
The whole scene was stored by the CCTV camera, which showed that the man pushing the woman went to the other side of the road without fear. The accused has not been identified yet, nor has the police know the reason for the incident.
The woman's son, Mohammad Zaheer, said that her mother had called the video and informed her of the incident when she was injured. Zaheer says that anyone will get angry with his mother's treatment. The accused should be arrested and convicted immediately.
Zaheer said his mother will never forget the inhuman behavior, and he believes the incident is a crime against a hatred because his mother was wearing a scarf and possibly the attacker targeted him as a Muslim woman.
The victim’s American-Pakistani family has lodged a police report.
Houston police said that if the suspect is arrested, he will face charges for committing a serious offense. Authorities are investigating the attack as a possible hate crime.
