Islamabad: According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), a heatwave is expected to affect most plain areas of the country from today until June 12, with temperatures likely to rise considerably above normal levels.

The weather department has forecast a gradual increase in temperatures across central and southern Punjab, Sindh, northeastern and southern Balochistan, and lower parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where daytime temperatures are expected to remain 4°C to 6°C above seasonal averages.

The PMD said most regions of the country are likely to experience hot and dry weather, while southern districts may remain under severe heat conditions during the forecast period.0

In Islamabad and adjoining areas, weather conditions are expected to stay hot and dry, whereas partly cloudy skies may develop in Kohistan, Battagram, and surrounding areas during the afternoon.

In Sindh, districts including Sukkur, Shikarpur, Qambar Shahdadkot, Jacobabad, Larkana, Mohenjo-Daro, Dadu, Shaheed Benazirabad, Ghotki, Khairpur, and Naushahro Feroze are likely to witness temperatures 4°C to 6°C higher than normal.

Similarly, Sibi, Turbat, and Panjgur in Balochistan are also expected to experience significantly elevated daytime temperatures, remaining above normal levels over the coming days.

Authorities have advised citizens, particularly children, elderly individuals, and those with health conditions, to avoid unnecessary exposure to direct sunlight and stay hydrated amid the intensifying heatwave conditions.
