The 40-year-old believes the system should be revamped to improve results
Boxing coach Ahmed Ali Khan believes that lack of funds was the primary reason for no participation of Pakistan in the ongoing Tokyo Olympics.
Only 10 athletes managed to represent the country in the mega-event which included no boxer.
Khan, who represented the country in Athens Olympics in 2004, stated that Pakistan Boxing Federation (PBF) did not have enough funds to train the athletes for the event.
“PBF did not have enough funds to send their boxers for training,” he said. “But the PBF secretary-general is accompanying the national contingent in Tokyo as an official.”
Khan, who is currently coaching 10 boxers, believes that athletes will only be able to perform if the whole structure is revamped.
“One should not expect our boxers to shine at the highest stage unless the whole system is revamped,” he added.
Hussain Shah remains the only boxer who has won a medal for Pakistan in the global sporting event. He bagged bronze in Seoul Olympics back in 1988.
